Upcycling of industrial dyes
Upcycling industrial dye, mainly from textile industries, and the recycling of organic compounds
By transforming dye waste into high-value materials, the group not only contributes to waste reduction but also enhances the functional properties of synthesized compounds, including optical and conductive characteristics. These efforts aim at fostering a circular approach to organic synthesis and eco-conscious technology. In recent years, the group has showcased the remarkable potential of an overlooked dye: the Benzothioxanthene imide. Through a pioneering work on the chemical functionalization of its conjugated core, a myriad of derivatives has been synthesized, characterized, and applied across various fields, including organic electronics (OPVs, OLEDs, LECs, liquid crystals), photocatalysis and photodynamic therapy.
